Therapeutic Bodywork
My current approach to bodywork is integrative. Massage techniques are a set of tools that I have available, in addition to biodynamic craniosacral therapy, breath work and somatic talk therapy. My intention is to support the nervous system and recognize holding patterns while addressing pain, limited range of motion and injury.
My actual work with clients depends on their specific needs and intentions. I incorporate massage techniques into the larger session of verbal communication and craniosacral therapy when requested or needed. Sometimes a client needs firmer contact due to an injury, pain, physically held tension or even just a way to settle and relax into the subtler hands-on work of craniosacral techniques. My massage style incorporates slow, connective tissue work that respects the nervous system while meeting the soft tissue of the body.
To see the mind-body as a supple organism - open to change - is to find organic flow in the midst of being an imperfect human being in an imperfect world.
Important Note: Massage generally asks clients to undress to their level of comfort, which allows for more access to specific areas that street-wear clothes can inhibit. If massage techniques are used in an integrative session that combines talk and craniosacral therapy, I work with a client clothed (in comfortable, non-restrictive clothing) so that massage techniques can be applied and limit the feeling of being over-exposed. In addition to a client’s clothes, I have sheets, blankets and pillows that offer another layer of comfort and support.
